Special Election Results
here.
The turnout for the special election was great. It is good to see so many coming out to participate in the decision making process in our town. While the decision ultimately went in a direction that we were not working towards, it is important for us and those who supported us that our original intention was realized: the people of Firestone were able to make their choice. 867 people took part in the democratic process yesterday, and for that we are very proud of our efforts.
Not all David and Goliath stories end with the little guy winning. We faced an opponent who has almost limitless funds to influence people to fall in line with their agenda. We had hard work and the desire to do what is right for the people of Firestone.
Since the votes have been tallied in favor of annexation, we will accept the will of the people. Our hope is that the will of the people will enhance the future of our town. However, we will continue to actively monitor this development as it progresses in order to make sure that all state law and municipal codes are followed, and what is right for the people of Firestone is always considered.
Rest assured that this is not the end of InformFirestone. We will continue to champion causes that we feel will benefit our community, keep close watch of our town leadership, call for better communication between leaders and the people, and demand transparency in our government.
We would like to thank all the people who worked so hard to bring this to a vote of the people, and to make the case for more answers and more information about this project to the voters of Firestone. We would especially like to thank Judy Hegwood, Firestone’s Town Clerk, who worked so hard to ensure that this election was fair and smooth, Paul Hubble, who spent the majority of yesterday as a poll watcher - one of the most tedious yet important jobs out there, and the election judges without whom these kind of elections would not be possible.
